DESCRIPTION: An excellent and very large 24" Meiji period Japanese cloisonne vase. Extremely elaborate design with precise wirework throughout. It features a series of three dragons around the shoulder of the vase, on of which has the pearl in his claw. Below that are shield shaped alternating vignettes of Hoho birds, butterflies, and floral motifs. A work of this size and quality would almost certainly have been done for exhibition or presentation to an important client of the artist. Extremely rare piece worthy of any cloisonne collection.
