A fine akoda nari kabuto Muromachi period (1336-1573), late 14th/early 15th century The heavy bowl constructed of 28 iron plates riveted together, the rear of each plate with a standing ridge, all covered in black lacquer and mounted in nijo shiho style with the front and rear plates covered with a gilt-copper plate engraved with scrolling vines and applied with shinodare, the base with igaki, the crown adorned with a five-stage chrysanthemum tehen kanamono, the front of the helmet with a kuwagata-dai pierce-carved with chrysanthemum scrolls and fitted with gilt-brass kuwagata and a gilt-wood maedate carved as a large peony blossom, the five-lame lacquered-iron shikoro laced in blue lacing in kebiki style finishing in fukigaeshi applied with gilt-brass manji heraldic crests, the fukugaeshi and mabizashi both applied with stenciled doe skin and trimmed in gilt-brass fukurin With a Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo (Especially Important Material) certificate issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon Kai (Society for the Study and Preservation of Japanese Armor) For further information on this lot please visit the Bonhams website
