Matsumi (Mike) Kanemitsu (1922 - 1992): Fair Kid. Signed lower left. Dimensions: 12.75 x 11 inches sheet Matsumi (Mike) Kanemitsu (Ogden, UT 1922- Los Angeles, 1992), known for his work with sumi-e brush and ink-based techniques. Proficient in Japanese sumi ink and brushes, watercolor, lithography and oil painting, Kanemitsu exhibited throughout the US and his work is owned by a number of public institutions in the US and Japan. Matsumi Kanemitsu was closely associated with the New York school artists: Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock, who inspired his work in black-and-white watercolors.
